Matsuki Sushi

Very popular sushi restaurant and you need to book a reservation 4 days in advance. The sushi are generally very nice but certain items on the menu limited to only 10 sets per day so you need to place order fast. The Hida beef sushi Don is really nice and a must try.

Came here for dinner and had the Hida beef and sushi set meal. The beef was delicious and it was one of the best meals I’ve had! We walked in on a Thursday night around 7ish and were seated on the counter so you could watch the chefs at work. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time and felt real taste of Shishi , lot of groups here l. We try to get bar counter seat unfortunately we couldn't get. Limited space but unlimited service

This is a genuine sushi restaurant catered mainly for Japanese customers. While tourists are found here due to its high rating, don't expect to strike a conversation with the hostess in English.We are no Japanese speakers so we only pointed at the menu to order their sets. Both the presentation and the quality of the sushi are of very high quality, at least to us foreigners. Despite the lack of communication with us, the hostess remains polite and courteous as expected from a traditional establishment of their culture.If you happen to be in Takayama, make sure you don't miss the opportunity to dine here.

Reasonable price with quality as the location is far from the sea, however otoro and other seafood are still fresh. I went on Saturday night and dont have to get a queue.

Quite simply the best meal I've had in Japan. The service was exceptionally friendly and the food was exceptionally good! I highly recommend this establishment of you are in the Takayama area!
